Unfortunately . . . this lesson doesn’t seem to have sunk in for a friend of mine, Gladys, who’s been getting really horrible, crank phone calls for the past 2 months. I’ve tried telling her, “. . . you can locate the owner of any phone . . . if you know where to look.”

Searching For The Telephone Number

Your first stop should be a “reverse phone number directory.” Plenty of these phone directories are now accessible on the world wide web. Usually, they ask you to enter the entire phone or cell number, including the area code, and hit “Search.” If the number is a published land line, you may get the data you want, including the name of the owner and her/ his current address. If you’re in a good mood, your search can stop at that point. You may, however, need to look at this another angle.

Because there is no central database of cell phone numbers that’s free of charge, a free reverse phone directory cannot return information on those numbers. As well, you may not be able to get data on landline numbers that are unlisted or non-published. I mention that only because Intelius has probably the largest database (more than 2 billion entries) and is able to find upwards of 90% of unlisted phone numbers. So, don’t bother trying multiple reverse phone directories in order to find the owner of a phone number, either. Most use the same databases, so if you don’t score results at one then you won’t fare any better at another site.

The web is such an intricate, vibrant and advanced (some would say) “animal.” But, through the intelligent use of our personal PCs and Macs, we can accomplish so much from our living rooms.

To take matters further, about a year ago, I wanted to get in touch with a buddy from college.

I hadn’t seen him for more than few years (not wanting to reveal my age!), and apparently lost his email address. That’s always a bummer. No worries.

That’s why ads pertaining to your current location constantly pop up. They have your IP address. Yes indeed, the Internet is helpful, but it’s also harmful in ways. Surf with caution!
