Opening Statement: Steve Maclin, Ph. D., Executive Director

We made the Reverse Lookup Phone Blog work for years without talking “About Us.” How did we do that? Well, it was never supposed to be about us. It was always about the issues that concerned our readers.
We simply focus on getting the information out there, and putting everything we have on display every single day, or every other day. A critic once warned, “I intend to monitor Reverse Lookup Phone Blog!” In response, I recommended that he subscribe to our rss feed. That way, “You’ll be sure to get everything delivered right to your rss reader.”
We’re bigger now, and people who aren’t very familiar with our line of work want to know if, in some way, we’re beholden to even larger online information providers like Intelius, reverse phone Detective, Reverse Genie or Amazon. We’re not. We’re ultimately supported by our readers and those readers (aside from our own conscience) are the only ones to whom we’re beholden.
So, if I had to point to one thing that defines the Reverse Lookup Phone Blog - that makes us unique - it’d be that we have accepted these readers as our sole supporters. And while that interdependency may occasionally be a bit stormy, it guarantees that whatever issues arise will be worked out between our organization and the community we serve. The invisible, institutional hand will never rule here.
Stay informed,
Steve
Our Mission
The Reverse Lookup Phone Blog is a full-service blog dedicated to establishing a powerful, stable voice for independent journalism. The core of our mission is educational, as we believe the biggest impediment to responsible decision-making is a lack of relevant and accurate information.
We provide visitors with reader-supported posts instead of advertiser-supported posts. Our direction is one of social enlightenment, as we attempt to shed light on issues of vital interest to the community such as internet security, cell phone number lookups, employment and criminal background checks and important issues of social networking.
Our History
Reverse Lookup Phone Blog was started by university professor Steve Maclin in response to mainstream media’s coverage (or lack thereof) of home internet security measures. As his organization began to take shape in early 2006, Maclin Enterprises, Inc. was formed and has helped cement the core values that we follow to this day. In Steve’s own words, “We’re hoping to reach a few people, have a small impact on the market, and maybe restore a little integrity.”
Maclin has been working online since 1998, when he built his first Flash website, while living among/ teaching U.S. soldier/ students stationed in Japan and S. Korea (see a more recent version here). He was stationed overseas for 6 years, but quickly gained the technological and marketing expertise to build his online business within the first 3 years.
What We Do
We report, write, post, interview and opine day-in and day-out, 24×7, 365. We also scour the global news media for the most important stories we can find. We cover national issues concerning internet security, communication technology, governmental policy on background checks and the availability of public records. We alert our readers to pivotal opinion pieces appearing in major newspapers and journals. Our home page is continually updated to display top headlines and arresting photography and other artwork. And we provide exciting multimedia reports and interviews of the most important events influencing free access to public records. Past assignments have included How Personal Records Become public records, Obama’s Cell Phone Revolution, Bullies, and a 3-part series on Griefers and Plain Old-Fashioned harassment. Finally, we post rss feeds and email free newsletters to our subscribers featuring the day’s top stories.
Our Expenses
As of May 2008, the Reverse Lookup Phone Blog pays monthly salaries to 1 full and 1 part-time employee (no volunteers), as listed below. Other costs include rental of dedicated servers, 24×7 server administration, multimedia production, creative fees, legal fees, administrative costs and maintaining insurance.
Our Goal
With a big thanks to our readers, Reverse Lookup Phone Blog has grown in leaps and bounds since its launch on New Year’s Day 2005. We currently boast approximately 2,000 unique visitors per day. And our goal for future efforts is simple: To build on our already significant, three-year record of steady growth by continuing to provide our readers with content that will keep them informed and empowered. If we work hard to attain that goal and maximize our potential as a reader-supported news agency, we believe our readers will continue to show us loyal dedication and appreciation.
To maximize this potential and grow our current levels of reader attraction and support, we plan to significantly bolster our content development, acquisition and presentation capabilities. This will be accomplished by greatly increasing our original news reporting and on-camera interviewing efforts, the results of which will be offered to our readers in both text and multimedia formats. Accordingly, we will expand our writing staff, multimedia technologies, web development technologies, and overall production processes and values. These efforts will provide our readers with the sort of high-quality, timely content they demand and deserve. Hard-hitting, inspirational content that will keep them excited and motivated. And by focusing on and addressing the demands of our readers, we will accomplish something that our corporate competitors willfully disregard, thereby ensuring our viability, growth and success.
